Lifeforce
Lifeforce is our latest demo, which won the 1st place at the ASM’07 combined demo competition..but you can’t read about it here yet. The reason is that all group members have been caught up in a celebratory cruise on a small ship in the bermuda triangle, which has had some strange effects on them all…amusic is stuck on the bridge, still suffering from color intoxication, amv has to stand guard on a never-ending midwatch, while ch3 and leviathan are still trying to make up an excuse to get out of navis telling them how great the party was, down in the lower decks. So while we’re -forcefully- looking for the life-boats, I”m going to give you this link, so you can download the prod and comment on the demo at the same time!

sorry for my English, I from RU. What can I say… IMHO, It’s one of the best demo that I saw, maybe the best. It’s not only awesome optimized graphic, godlike music and pure code, it’s full of sence and philosophy. Well done!)))

Congratulations from France, I liked your previous demos very much but I must say “Lifeforce” is really a masterpiece.
Playing it to all my family and friends, and they appreciate it even if not familiar with demos and not understanding what it really is.
I hope this will open you many doors and long to see your next work… art?…

simply best demo ever
August 24th, 2007 at 2:22 pm
This is the first demo I’ve seen in 20 years of watching them that I would call ‘beautiful’. It isn’t just a bunch of interesting techniques stapled together, it’s pure art for it’s own sake.
I can die happy now. Best demo ever!

August 29th, 2007 at 3:15 am
Simply amazing! Outstanding graphic effects running very smoothly (except for a minor slowdown in the very last, underwater scene), superb music (reminds me of Jean Michel Jarre’s ‘Chronology’ at times, especially the choir and the distorted electric guitar) and a great philosophy/script/storyline.
Definintely one of the best demos I ever saw (and I’ve seen quite many of them so far, I believe).
Kind Regards from Germany!
August 29th, 2007 at 10:40 pm

One word for navis : I would *greatly* appreciate your opinion on the music of the worst ‘demo’ of pixelshow 2005, vortex.
Keep up making art with science!

Great work, guys, I’m impressed and so on (usual words were skipped by default, he-he). No jokes today. LifeForce - is a “must-see” masterpiece of a demo-art. You know it, don’t you?
aMUSIC & Leviathan - personal respect for a great music, especially a middle part with piano sequence.
Keep up making such a breathtaking demos, and don’t give up on yourselves and on the possibility of a future, guys.

Set & setting, story & music, art & effects - a flawless diamond
Merry christmas from germany
December 23rd, 2007 at 6:57 am
This demo comes right in line with Future Crew’s Second Reality and complex’s Dope.
Awesome job guys, it’s one of the few demos out there, that I have been watching 4 times in row and still catch me being awed by it’s flawlessness. Not so much the tricks that appeal me, it’s the flow of the demo paired up with good conding and of course the music.
December 27th, 2007 at 1:43 am
not work with radeon hd2600. loading and… nothing.
January 3rd, 2008 at 7:47 am
doesn’t run on my radeon hd2600xt,
pre-loading screen takes forever (after about 10 minutes i’ve shut the process down).
meanwhile, only one core was utilized ~90%, the other 3 were idle (Q6600).
January 4th, 2008 at 8:56 am
To all radeon hd2600 owners, we didn’t have such a card to test the demo on when we were making it. Maybe Navis can find a solution for it. And Oren, Lifeforce was developed on a single core athlon CPU and it’s not programmed to utilize multiple processors or cores (there’s no need for it actually, as lifeforce runs relatively smoothly on low end cpu’s and gpu’s as well).
Finally Nekka, there is no midi track for the guitars. I could however bake a version without the guitars so you can play over it. If you’re interested mail me. My e-mail is my nickname at the domain of this site (ha.. eat your heart out spammers).
January 5th, 2008 at 10:11 pm
Hello everyone at ASD. I have been watching the development of your demos for the last few years… so this is no surprise really. Great music, stunning effects, and all round truly great showcase of what you can all do… its just a shame that game development and demo development have not both followed a similar path of excellence! I run most of your stuff on an AGP NVIDIA 7600gt CARD - and it all shifts about in a frame quite nicely! Keep up the amazing work - and thanks for NOT doing any rubbishy techno/hardcore house/hip-hop music rubbish… that really spoils soooo many demos I could mention!
happy 2008.
January 10th, 2008 at 5:02 am
Awesome demo from ASD, as always.
Still, the definition of perfect demo (to me) remains Iconoclast, especially music-wise, very Dream Theater-ish… yet actually even better.
See you at Assembly!
January 15th, 2008 at 3:30 am
Guys! You are the best! I saw all your works for last years - to my mind your are the kings! I wish you to be so powerful in future and kick all lamer asses on demoscene!!!
January 31st, 2008 at 12:23 pm
Yes, this is undoubtably the best demo made thus far… top marks for style, sound, visuals, ethos, phronesis, arete and eunoia!!!
Question is: How can you better it?
Answer is: Your next prod.
February 10th, 2008 at 4:20 pm
RIDICULOUS.
This has to be one of the most amazing transitional demos i have eer scene. Switching emotion and scene with such ease, really great work.
I cant wait to see more, from FuzzYspo0N in South Africa
February 10th, 2008 at 7:33 pm
Wow. Simply, wow.
I haven’t been up to date on the scene in over 2 years and I happen to scoop this up. I’m friggin amazed! The end got me all teary eyed, thx amusic and leviathan
Awesome awesome work you all, I can’t wait to see more.
March 1st, 2008 at 3:58 am
HI! I have some problems with this release. In my brand new ATI HD 2600 Pro the demo doesn’t work, it only shows a black screen…With a fresh XP SP2 instalation.
On my old Radeon 9550 works well(a bit slow, ofcourse).
Thanks and keep that good job!
March 3rd, 2008 at 3:47 am
I see demos since Second Reality, and your demo is a good job, perfect.
March 7th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
Your demo literally made me cry. I have never felt such depth, such emotion in a demo (the closest is an old DOS prod called ‘Contrast’ by the French group Oxygene). You guys really dig deep, like a Shulman album.
One thing I don’t understand, though: on my NVIDIA 8600GTS card the demo seems rather slow (~10-15 FPS, perhaps even lower), especially if I compare it with prods like Debris (Farbrausch) or Media Error (FLT) which flow as a river.
March 23rd, 2008 at 3:20 am
Hey ASD, congrats for winning the scene.org awards in all those categories. =D YAAAAAY!
March 23rd, 2008 at 6:58 pm
Weird, it ran a few weeks back but apparently ATI changed something in their drivers. Doesn’t run on a ATI x1950pro anymore. Tested with cataclyst 7.13 and all the 8.x series. Any ideas?
March 24th, 2008 at 5:58 am
Please someone report the problem to ATI developers to fix it…
March 25th, 2008 at 1:28 am
To all people having problems with ATI Radeon cards running ASD Demos (including Metamorphosis): Switch back to the display drivers (Cataclyst) 7.5. After re-installing these old drivers, the productions do run fine.
March 26th, 2008 at 6:27 am
ooBrian, it’s a good advice, but what about people who bought a new Radeon series 38xx? Seems like they will have to wait for a real fix.
March 27th, 2008 at 5:52 pm
I’ll try and fix it asap. I’ll notify all of you thanks.
April 15th, 2008 at 11:42 pm
Hi, Navis
the same here.
Updated my ATI drivers and demos don’t work any more.
April 25th, 2008 at 5:40 pm
You guys rocks! I love your productions! Keep on your amazing kewl work! best regards from germany….
April 27th, 2008 at 6:50 am
Took me ages to make the damn thing work! Then I came and read the discussion here - Now I know my HD3870 wont run it, and now I know the fix for my older Radeon 9800 Pro.
Runs a charm on the 9800 Radeon based system, really blew me away - love the music, especially the piano section in the middle… amazing!.
I also have problems running on an nvidia based platform - 570 chipset, 7900GT - Demo runs, but it’s on some sort of drug, or has parkinson’s or something, as it ’shakes’… weird!
Well done though ASD - looking forward to the HD 38xx fix! I wanna see some serious resolutions and frame rates now!
May 12th, 2008 at 3:06 am
Well done guys!
i’am impress by music, could you please tell me who did it ?
Thks in advance
May 14th, 2008 at 1:20 pm
The Best — without “one of” … Everytime I play this demo, I would lost myself. ..I’m good at c, and I want to learn to make things like that, can you please tell me where to start?
May 16th, 2008 at 9:59 am
Hey there! Great demo, unbelievable.. I’ve been watching demo’s (and tracking
) since 1992, and this by far is the best demo i’ve seen yet.
Man I miss the demoscene, hanging out on #trax , ASM93 , tracking on my sbpro using mod edit, then scream tracker
May 19th, 2008 at 5:58 am
Great demo, but I’m really sad about the fact that it doesn’t run on my Radeon HD3850. However, on my old X1900 it worked fine. I hope a fixed version will be released soon…
May 22nd, 2008 at 11:08 am
Hello from GMT-8!
I’ve been following Leviathan since the days of songs like Wanderlust and Emerald Visions. Together with aMUSiC, the soundtrack produced is enough to make me feel light-headed, sending a chill down my spine. It is that powerful.
The demo is one of the finest I’ve ever seen. I had to read the readme.txt to understand what was going on, but once I did it all made perfect sense.
This is better than anything I’ve seen from Farb-Rausch, and that is saying a LOT! Keep up the good work!!!
June 12th, 2008 at 3:35 am
Huns, it’s not the Leviathan that you know of actually. This Leviathan is from greece, close bud of mine and excellent guitarist =P
July 11th, 2008 at 5:53 pm
Amazing demo that i run on nvidia 7900GT, but can’t get working on Radeon HD 4870.
Don’t know what to do, but guys, keep on it doing great demos !!!!
July 12th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
Hay!….
This is incredible..fantastic. Only one bad thing, because this beautiful work doesn’t run on my VGA card (Radeon 2900XT HD). I don’t now, what is the problem. Can anyone help me, what is solution?? Please help!! And RESPECT ASD, You’re the best!!!
August 26th, 2008 at 8:50 am
Any word on the Radeon fix? I first ran this demo on a GeForce 7600GT, and I loved it and watched it like 10 times, despite the horrible frame rate. Now I have a Radeon 4870, and it’s a crime that I can’t run it.
September 12th, 2008 at 5:13 pm
ASD Crew please cook up a fix for the ATI crowd with 38xx 48xx cards. The prod looks real good from the screenies. Keep em comin
September 15th, 2008 at 7:15 pm
Maybe someone can record demo with ie. Fraps and put a into a mkv in 720p ?
September 23rd, 2008 at 3:11 pm
I love your great and amazing designed productions! Its real art and shows what the scene can do! Great work guys, keep it on! Best regards
September 23rd, 2008 at 4:19 pm
So nice Job, guys…
Thanks for all your productions.
But please, give us a fix for ATI cards.
October 16th, 2008 at 9:19 am
At last, I was able to run this on my 4870 with the just released Catalyst 8.10 drivers!
Awesome demo.
October 20th, 2008 at 3:41 pm
F-ING FINALLY! Thanks for the heads up with the drivers.
November 30th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
